Discover the Heart Behind Made By Han Designs: Art, Calligraphy, and Business Journey

For those of you who don’t know me, I am Hannah (Hall) Hutton, the owner of Made By Han Designs! I am 24 years old and have been a small business owner for 4 years now (so crazy to say!). As a small business owner, you are always learning, growing, and finding new ways to connect with others. Therefore, I have now decided to start a blog sharing more of my heart, along with tips and tricks for artwork and hand-lettering. Thank you for being here as I take this next step. I am so excited to continue on this wonderful adventure ๐Ÿ™‚

As I thought about how to begin my blog, I couldn’t help but go back to the start exactly four years ago. In 2020, COVID-19 was at the forefront of everyone’s minds, and darkness seemed to weigh on every human. I spent a lot of time that summer diving into the Bible, attempting to see God’s goodness in the midst of the pain in the world. I so desperately wanted a way to spread His light and help others in any way possible. During this time, I also found my love for art again, as I began drawing more. Art has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember, involved in all art clubs throughout school. However, once I got to college, I didn’t have the time for it like I used to… until 2020. During that summer, I also began a new hobby of calligraphy and began hand-lettering Bible verses and quotes. I sent photos to my friends of these doodles and writings, and one said, “I would absolutely hang that in my room. You should make me one!” I never thought anyone would want MY artwork hung up in their room (like come on… are you kidding?). Well, this friend was absolutely not kidding, and she became my very first customer of a business idea that blossomed that day.

I shared this crazy idea with my friends and family, and every single one was so supportive. Therefore, I started my research on “how to start a hand-lettering business.” From creating the business name, learning items I can paint on, supplies needed, different techniques, and how to build a website, to all of the ins and outs of the “business” side of things. My brother also does graphic design, and he was on board IMMEDIATELY when I threw the idea out to him. He helped to create my logo, which is still what you see today. He also helped to build my website and branding. (As sappy as it is, I would not be here today without him – you’re welcome for the surprisingly kind words, Bub ๐Ÿ˜‰ ). But in all seriousness, after the research was over, I launched my website, Facebook, and Instagram. I began attending craft fairs as well. And through a combination of all of these, I have continued growing this business and plan to keep growing more and more every day.

While I have created a variety of custom items throughout the years so far, my work has always gone back to the beginning and my forever “why” behind Made by Han Designs: spreading the love of Jesus. Hand-lettering scriptures, quotes, and sweet reminders of His love for others to see every single day in their homes, office, classroom, etc. is at the root of this business. I have also done an array of custom signs for weddings, events, and gifts, each representing the most special life moments. I now have begun making earrings, keychains, beaded wristlets, lanyards, bookmarks, stickers, and more as well! As I create each item, I pray over it, that it will bless each person who sees it and bring joy every day. I love that I get to do this, and I am so grateful God gave me this passion, gift, and dream.

So there you have it! My first blog post and the heart behind Made By Han Designs. Much more to come soon, so stay tuned… Thank you so much for being here and supporting my dreams. I am so excited to continue this journey with you. Here’s to more creating together!
